2023  - Facilitating the first exhibition in the West of renowned historian and artist Dr Li Kangying in Buxton

Dr. Li Kangying

DR Li KANGYING is a historian of Chinese cultural history, his academic works on Chinese history of the 14th-16th century are university textbooks and on the reading list for most of university postgraduates of Chinese history worldwide.

DR Li is an avant-garde calligrapher combining the ancient inscription on tortoise shell and bronze of the Shang Dynasty (BC1600-1046), the earliest form of Chinese character, and some approaches of the modern European arts.

"A Journey To Soul" 9-11 July 2023

Drawing on ancient poetry uniquely interpreted through Dr Li Kangying's original calligraphy, we took a well-being approach to the exhibition. We found balance by placing the artwork on the floor and juxtaposing it in contrast to the magnificent classical ceiling of the Assembly Room.

The audience feedback was overwhelmingly possible conveying a sense of peace and calm to the audience.

"...not sure what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed the experience."

"...the experience was brilliant"

"A truly valuable experience of seeing quality and experiencing peace"
